Ezra A. Johnson is a fifth generation Texan who grew up on San Antonio’s near north side. He is pleased to be part of a diverse energy law transactional practice with a focus on assisting landowners navigate the exciting world of upstream and midstream hydrocarbon resources development, marketing and transportation.

Biography

Ezra A. Johnson is a fifth generation Texan who grew up on San Antonio’s near north side. He is pleased to be part of a diverse energy law transactional practice with a focus on assisting landowners navigate the exciting world of upstream and midstream hydrocarbon resources development, marketing and transportation. Ezra’s practice has recently expanded to assisting clients with carbon sequestration and alternative energy projects. As part of this practice, Ezra negotiates oil and gas leases, carbon sequestration easements, land sales and commercial lease contracts, surface use agreements, asset purchase and sale agreements and pipeline and gathering line agreements. Ezra is also proud to provide litigation support for landowners in title and royalty disputes.

Admitted to practice law in Texas (2008) and New York (2010)

Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (2013)

Admitted to practice in the Court of Federal Claims (2015)

Legal Education:
St. Mary’s University School of Law, (J.D., 2008). During law school, Mr. Johnson was a senior associate editor of the St. Mary’s Law Journal and Magister of the legal honors fraternity Phi Delta Phi. Inducted into the John M. Harlan Honors Society and the Order of Barristers.

Annotated cases for the 2007 supplement to the Seventh Edition of the Texas Rules of Evidence Manual, prepared case updates for the Federal Evidence Tactics Manual, assisted with cite checking, editing, revising and updating the Matthew Bender Texas Criminal Practice Guide and Thompson West’s Texas Practice: Criminal Practice and Procedure.

Undergraduate Education:
The University of Texas at Austin (B.M., 1999). During college at UT, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Longhorn Band and the U.T. Opera program. Mr. Johnson also played at Carnegie Hall in New York City in February 1998 as a member of the University of Texas Wind Ensemble.

  • Presided over oil and gas docket hearings, drafted examiners reports and proposals for decisions for consideration by the elected Commissioners as an Administrative Law Judge for the Railroad Commission of Texas
  • Engaged in diverse energy law transactional and litigation practice
  • Drafted and negotiated oil and gas leases, land sales and commercial lease contracts, surface use agreements, asset purchase and sale agreements, pipeline and gathering line agreements
  • Drafted carbon sequestration leases and easements.
  • Drafted deeds, assignments, bills of sale and other instruments concerning the transfer of real and personal property
  • Examined title and drafted drilling and division order title opinions to lands selected for oil and gas exploration and development
  • Drafted motions and other litigation support documents
